Roman Tsukman (born 1987) grew up in Krasnoyarsk, Siberia, where his artistic path began at an early age. From 2004 to 2008, he studied painting, design and art theory at the W.I. Surikov Art College in Krasnoyarsk. After graduating, he worked as a designer in Krasnoyarsk and later in Saint Petersburg, developing projects in advertising design, interior and home furnishing, as well as painting.

In 2013, his artistic practice took a decisive turn towards cinema. He attended a film production course at LENFILM in Saint Petersburg. Although the course offered only a general introduction to the film industry, it became an important starting point: Roman Tsukman discovered a strong passion for filmmaking and began developing his own ideas for the screen.

Between 2013 and 2017, he directed his first fictional and documentary works while also contributing to other video productions as an editor. In 2017, his first feature-length film premiered, marking an important milestone in his development as a filmmaker.

In 2014, Roman Tsukman moved to Berlin with his wife. There, he continued to develop his artistic and cinematic practice, expanding his work across documentary, fiction and editing.

From 2017 to 2020, he studied documentary directing at filmArche e.V. in Berlin. Alongside his artistic work, he became a father. During the pandemic years, he continued developing new film projects, including a series exploring social and political themes.

Since 2025, Tsukman has been studying editing at the Filmuniversity BABELSBERG KONRAD WOLF, further deepening his engagement with the language and structure of cinema.

His work moves between documentary observation, fiction and visual experimentation, with a particular interest in people, politics, art, and the subtle spaces between reality and constructed images.
